Yep fu there... agree...but since then Sam Murray and Jaiydn Stephenson have not been fu's.
I have been educated ;we have been excoriating Hine, but Stephenson,Murray, and also Schazza, De Goey, Moore, have not been f'us. You cannot get every possible champion. because if you could, you would be better than GWS.

If I'd have known he was Charlie's nephew I would of been keen for us to pick him up, character like that is worth more than gold!

Wow, just wow. Just goes to prove that not even the best recruiters out there are good enough to get them all right. Still, this was a major howler and Hine/Taylor should be ashamed of themselves. Again, we are prepared to recruit proven risks or duds like Russell, Young, Lynch, Hudson, Mayne, Dwyer, Karnezis, Armstrong, Gault, Martin, Frost, Kennedy, Ramsay, Marsh, White, Oxley, Yagmoor....the list goes on and on but you won't rookie list Ben Brown? Mind boggling.

Geez, knowing he's related to a former premiership player.

Anyway, good luck to him. If he ended up here maybe he wouldn't have gotten his chance?

He was looked over in three drafts. Every club goofed, including North Melbourne.

We at least offered to take him, just didn't work out. Not the sort of pick you can put down as a mistake for anyone, or genius from North. They just got lucky, really.

Bingo. We offered to support his rehab if he moved to Melbourne and rookie him the following year. He declined so our guys probably put a line through his name.

He played for Norths VFL affiliate when he did come over, so they would have got good inside info on temperament and work ethic etc which lead to them giving him a go.

If we made an error, so did every other club multiple times.

We could still have drafted him right until the end...

From previous discussion:
In effect, we chose Jesse White instead: the draft pick we gave up for him came before the one used on Brown. You might say this happened because of an unhealthy obsession with finding someone to play the "Leigh Brown role". But actually Ben Brown was rucking in the year before getting drafted. His ruck duties have diminished as (in the temporal sense, but possibly also true in the causal sense) his forward output has increased. Maybe for the CFC recruiters' sakes, he should have changed his name from Ben to Leigh.

On the other hand, his health condition was discovered only in recent years, I think. That alone could have led to a huge upswing in performance.
