^ probably not, but if you offered me

In Adams and Ginnivan Rd and 1 2024
Out Schultz

I'd take it in a heartbeat as essentially, that's what happened.

^Definitely would be giving Schulz more time to establish himself.
However, in my mind the Schulz vs Ginnivan debate is peripheral.
The main issue is that we are short of one in and under mid, and my main critisicm is that we haven't recruited/trained/developed another inside mid clearly ready for the AFL apparently at this stage.

We should have been more urgent and effective in preparing for this.
I think we were basing our hopes on Fin to come through.
We recruited Sullivan as a backstop during the pre-season.

But at this stage we seem to have little confidence in either, and keep selecting them as emergencies, etc.

I just can't see how Titch can hold up as the one pure and under inside mid. He just has to have assistance.

The main issue for us is: work out who can be a back up for Mitchell in our midfield.
It will mean playing Sullivan, fin in the seniors

Patience, folks. It's not an easy forward line to play, and definitely not in a new team that won the premiership. The supportive long game is the right approach here.

I think Schultz is doing reasonably well, with a lot of major upside to come as he keeps adapting to our system and style.

Forward half turnovers through intense pressure has been our main source of generating scores this year, a contrast to last year where a lot of our scores were generated off the back half with fast transition through the corridor.

Schultz has been a contributor to this with his ground ball pressure and doing the one-percenters when the ball hits the ground. The hope now is all that hard work translates to more goals from him. At this stage, he's averaging one goal per game (8 goals in 7 games)

As reiterated above, patience is the key.

I'm no expert, but I suspect he is being played a bit further up the ground than he did at Freo. With us, Bobby Hill is our main crumber close to goals. Schultz will likely get better as he adapts to our game plan and his teammates adapt to him. So far he's tracking nicely imho.

The expectation from many was goals galore with Shultz coming into the squad. He's playing more upfield and is part of the pressure game to keep the ball in the forward line. His pressure on the ball carrier is intense.

I noticed a while ago, he is filling space outside 50, and is chasing the packs and gets involved as another layer of defence.

I have noticed lately he has been around the F50 flanks looking for space.

His shots to me, are mainly quick under pressure opportunities which I reckon the ball just happened to change direction, and he has been there.

This is just casual observation, statistically he has kicked 7.7 in 6 games, and I recon he could have had 4 goals a couple of times.

Nothing to write home about, I would like to see more, but I can see the problem, If I'm right, playing more as a genuine forward he has bags in him on good days.

This was a strange expectation - over his career, he's gone at a goal and a bit per game, on average. At the moment, he's going at a goal and a bit per game for us. Last year (his best goalkicking season), he kicked 33 goals at an average of 1.43 per game. If he were doing that, now, he'd have 11 goals for the season, so far, rather than 8. For comparison, he had 10 goals after the first 7 games last year (but had played against some poorer teams - eg, North, West Coast, Adelaide and Gold Coast). Last year, he kicked 2 goals in total against Brisbane across 2 games, 1 goal against Essendon, no goals against GWS, 2 goals in total against Hawthorn in 2 games, 0 goals against Port, 2 goals against St Kilda and 8 goals in total against Sydney across 2 games. If you average that out, we might have anticipated him scoring 9 goals in the first 7 rounds against those opponents, rather than 8. He's (maybe) a little below where we might reasonably have thought he would be - but not much.

I had him as kicking more goals per season ( around 2 per game ) at Collingwood than his 1.5 per game at the Dockers. I based that on how slowly the Dockers moved the ball in previous years compared to Collingwood. What I didn’t think through was that he has basically gone from the number one small forward at the Dockers, to about third in the pecking order at Collingwood.
I’m sure he continues to do his job defensively but the main observation I have of him at the moment is that he ( amongst a number of others ) has the fumbles all too often for a quality player.
Another consideration for bringing him would undoubtably be as a replacement for Jamie sooner than later. There’s every chance we may not see Schultz at his best until the day Elliot passes the baton on to him.
Given that we paid a late first rounder and something more for him, I would think Collingwood are also looking for a bit more than his current output.

I just don't think he was needed and it was a very costly trade.
Nothing against him but we had Harrison in the wings taht imo could easily be swapped out for him now with minimal disruption.
A top 10 pick and a 2nd rounder was robbery imo.

Was barely sighted and when he was, he fumbled like crazy. We overpaid for a spot we relatively had covered and not a real NEED.
